 The Problem:
There are many solutions on the market that
provide a piece of the "Data Protection Pie", but without all of
them a Computer or Hard Drive Crash can be devastating and time
consuming to recover from. You can backup your data to an external
drive or to a Remote Backup provider, but most of the time the
really important files, the Operating System and Programs are not
backed up. You can back up your OS and
Programs but restoring them takes expertise that most users don't
have.
It can take hours, even days, to reinstall the
Operating System and Programs on a computer just to get it ready for
the data files to use.

Hard Drive Crash
If just your Hard Drive is bad you need
to get a new one. It is possible in some instances to repair
Hard Drives, but once they start going bad it's very inexpensive
to replace them.

and up to $150 if you do it yourself. Add another $50 - $100 if
you have you have to pay someone to do it.
Operating System
If you're lucky your computer came with
the CD's necessary to reload the Operating System if your Hard
Drive crashes. If you do not have the CD's you need to buy them,
or acquire them if you have a valid install Key.

have the CD's. 1-2 days and up to $200 if you don't.
Programs
Some of the Programs you use may have
been included with your computer. Some of them you might have
purchased. Some of them you might have downloaded.

1-4 hours if you have all of the Program Media and Key Codes.
1-5 days and who knows how much money if you don't - you have to
buy the programs if you don't have the media or Registration
Keys (that's if it's still being produced), you have to remember
what programs you had and where you got them from also. Ever had
to call Tech Support or Customer Service to get the Installation
Keys because you can't find the email?
System Settings
When you reinstall the Operating System
you get a plain vanilla install. If
you're lucky and used the Manufacturers Restore Disk you got the
programs that were installed originally. But all of your
settings like Usernames, Desktop Backgrounds, Icons, Fonts,
Folders, Favorites, Browser settings, etc. will have to be
re-created.
Time and Money: for a
1-User system could be 1 hour. For more users (Don't forget
password) could be 2-4 hours. No $ involved, just aggravation.
Computer Crash
If your whole computer is toast you need
to get another one. Hopefully you can still get one that has the
Operating System you were using before your old one died.
Time and Money:
1 day to 2 weeks depending on shipping, if you have to order it,
and the time it takes to learn a new Operating System, if you
can't get a computer with the OS you were using. $449 and up
depending on what you get.

you backed it up, how much of it you have, and where you backed
it up to.

from a lot of crying because you didn't back
